Our Farming Background
The farming business was started by Aidan Colgan in 1969 in Northern Ireland. In his lifetime he witnessed many changes to farming practices but held true to principles of good husbandry of crops and livestock and always focusing on customer satisfaction. He helped to create the first quality assurance scheme for beef and lamb in Northern Ireland. As such embedded a focus in the farm for food safety, quality, traceability and high levels of animal welfare and environmental stewardship.
In 2003 a lifelong dream was realised by Aidan in purchasing Lowick Hall Farm where Aidansfield complex now resides.
The farm is now headed by his wife Joan and son Conor who has taken the lead in developing the next era of the farm. Conor has been working on the farm since an early age taking a keen interest in livestock, breeding and arable farming and in his own right holds an MBA in Advanced Farm Management. He also sits on the Governing Council of the Institute of Agricultural Management and the AHDB Beef and Lamb sector board.
The mission statement of the farm and the research facility is to optimise farming systems for best economic & environmental performance.
